Hi! I’m Molly. Thanks for stopping by my handcrafted homemaking community!
A Little About Me
I am a Christian wife and mother of 5 children, living in a lovely English village surrounded by hills. In everyday life I spend my days running my home, making plans for my allotment, and enjoying my children. I love to read beautiful old books, hunt for bargains in charity shops, and photograph wild flowers on our walks around our village. My favourite coffee is an iced vanilla latte.
My Homemaking Story
As an engaged 23 year old I had excitedly made plans for our home life. In this dream world all my recipes turned out perfectly and no one ever got sick! But somehow amongst the challenges of the first year of marriage I stumbled across Edith Schaeffer’s book, The Hidden Art of Homemaking.
I already felt that there was more to a home than decorating within the four walls, but I didn’t know where to begin. Edith Schaeffer’s book opened up many new areas of creativity for me, as well as challenging me to pour my skills into my home. Soon I found myself embarking on a new adventure of learning how to cook, clean, sew, write and host guests. I knew then that I would never be bored at home. NowI have been a full-time homemaker for over 10 years and I’m still not bored! The more I learn the more I find new areas to develop expertise in. I still feel excited about my home.
A Handcrafted Home
At first I began starting to look for ways to connect myself more deeply with my home. I found that this mostly came through using my own creativity to invest myself in the processes of the home. This also happened to be essential because money was very tight in those early years. Very soon I needed to learn to sew, upcycle furniture, and grow a garden from seeds. In this way I got the beauty that I longed for, and also found great satisfaction for myself. Over the years I have continued to expand into all kinds of areas for my handcrafted home. I ventured into quilting, crochet, and bread making. Dress making, jam making, and baby knitting. Now I prefer to make rather than buy whenever I can, not just because its thrifty but because it brings me lots of joy.
Why Home on the Rock?
This blog came to be known as Home on the Rock because of a story Jesus told about two houses, one with a foundation and one without.
My Christian faith is the rock on which all of my homemaking is built. It is the reason and the meaning behind everything I do in my home. I hope that those getting a window into my home life will see someone whose daily life is dependent on faith in Jesus Christ, not just someone who makes a lot of things. I love to delight in the little details of homemaking, and this all flows from deeper gratitude to the Creator of all things.
Join us for brunch!
We love to feast and celebrate, often with brunch on Sundays after church. The table is chaotic, we are never all in one photo, but the food is great and we enjoy being together.
