Pregnancy is a beautiful time to rest and enjoy, and also a great time to make a simple pregnancy to do list. Each of my five pregnancies with my children was different, but I still managed to accomplish some things at this special time. If you would like to make plans, I hope this post will help give you some ideas.
Beginning your own Pregnancy To Do List
Start by visualising how you would like things to be by the time the baby arrives. Things should come to mind that you would like to get done! Here are some examples:
- painting and decorating
- organising finances or paper work
- garden design or planting
- clearing out clothing
- selling some things you don’t need
Accomplishing some of these practical tasks at the start of your pregnancy to do list can help you feel more prepared for having a new baby.
Adding New Skills to your Pregnancy To Do List
During the quiet times before the arrival of a new baby, you may find that you want a focus for your love and thoughts of your new little one. You may want to try some projects. One of my first sewing projects was a quilt for my first child. There may be skills you have dreamed of trying, such as:
- Breadmaking
- Pottery making
- Painting
- Knitting
- Wreath making
If anything comes to mind, now is a good time to add it to your to do list! It can help you to feel productive and relaxed during pregnancy to accomplish a new skill.
Planning for the New Baby
Obviously an important part of your pregnancy to do list is about planning for your new arrival! Your aim is to allow things to run as smoothly as possible after the baby arrives, and you can really help yourself by setting things up now. I have found it really helpful to gather everything I’m going to need for the first few months so that I know I’m ready for that exhausting and wonderful time! If you want to buy things, do some research now, so you don’t waste money and energy later on. Here are some ideas:
- A car seat fitted and ready
- Practice using a wrap if you plan to use one to carry your baby
- Gather a few simple baby clothes in each of the first few sizes – Newborn, Up to 1 month, 0-3 months, 3-6 months, so that you don’t get caught out after a growth spurt! You can always add to this later.
- Prepare a place for the baby to sleep and organise things you will need to use every day so that they are easy to find – nappies, wipes, muslins, swaddle blankets, nappy cream etc.
Taking Care of Yourself in Pregnancy
Finally, you should always have a few things on your pregnancy to do list which help you to feel well during pregnancy and prepare for labour. Here are some of my favourites:
- Taking a good pregnancy multivitamin supplement
- Using a specialist moisturiser on stretch marks (such as Bio oil)
- Exploring essential oils which you love (these may also come in useful during labour)
- Research and make notes about labour experiences which inspire you, and aim towards a wonderful birth story.
I hope that this post has helped and encouraged you in preparing a simple pregnancy to do list.
